In a significant move to improve merchant operations, Walmart has introduced “Wally,” a generative AI assistant designed to streamline various tasks for its merchants. This initiative underscores Walmart’s commitment to leveraging advanced technology to support its seller community.
Wally is engineered to help merchants by automating time-consuming tasks such as data entry and analysis. Its capabilities include diagnosing product performance, answering operational queries, and performing complex calculations. By handling these routine activities, Wally enables merchants to focus more on strategic and growth aspects of their business. The AI model underpinning Wally utilizes advanced algorithms capable of processing large volumes of product data, providing merchants with actionable insights to optimize their offerings. Walmart has indicated plans to continually refine Wally based on merchant feedback to ensure its effectiveness and relevance.
For instance, Wally can help merchants understand why certain products are underperforming or identify categories with significant gross merchandise value increases. This level of analysis empowers merchants to make informed decisions, adjust their strategies promptly, and better meet evolving customer expectations. By automating these analytical tasks, Wally not only saves time but also enhances the accuracy of business assessments.
Amazon has also ventured into AI-driven seller support with “Project Amelia,” a generative AI-based assistant designed to provide personalized business advice to sellers. Amelia functions as an always-available expert, offering immediate responses to a wide range of seller inquiries. Sellers can ask Amelia about sales metrics, inventory management, or advertising strategies and receive tailored guidance to enhance their business operations. Built using Amazon Bedrock, Amelia combines broad world knowledge with deep expertise in selling on Amazon, ensuring that the advice provided is both accurate and relevant. Over time, Amelia is expected to evolve, offering increasingly personalized insights and proactive support to sellers.

eBay has introduced the “Magical Bulk Listing Tool,” an AI-powered feature aimed at simplifying the product listing process for sellers. This tool allows sellers to upload batches of product images, from which eBay’s AI generates draft listings with suggested categories, titles, and item specifics within seconds. Capable of processing hundreds of photos per batch, the tool significantly reduces the time and effort required to create listings. Initially available to U.S. sellers in the Sports Trading Card category, eBay plans to expand its availability to more categories and regions soon.
