I currently sell on Wayfair and while its a great tool, they have a lot of shady things they do that end up costing the seller way more than expected.
1. They make you give them your wholesale cost- normally which is very low and they push back if they think it is too high. They then mark it up to whatever they think is appropriate and you are given no say in what the product actually sells for to customers.
2. They pay you by giving you a credit card to run, causing you to foot the bill for the credit card fees, thus loosing another 3.5% on top of the low wholesale you already get.
3. You are also stuck with 4% deducted off of each payment for possible "returns/damages". This is something that is on every invoice, even if you never have a return. There goes the margin even lower… that's 7.5% that you are loosing
4. When/if you get a return, it only gets shipped back to you some of the time. So not only do you loose out on they pay for that item, you also do not get it back to try and re sell and recoup some money.
If Wayfair wasn't one of our largest selling platforms I would drop them in a heartbeat. And their customer service for the seller is a joke. They take forever to return emails and then they do, they normally need more info, tell you to email another contact or some other nonsense that leaves you frustrated and wondering if its even worth the time to bother.
