OpenAI on Monday announced Instant Checkout, a feature designed to let shoppers complete purchases directly inside ChatGPT. The tool, developed with Stripe and powered by the Agentic Commerce Protocol, enables a streamlined “chat-to-checkout” flow that removes the friction of redirecting to external websites.
The feature is currently live for U.S. Etsy sellers, giving them exposure to ChatGPT’s massive user base. More than a million Shopify merchants are expected to follow in the coming months, according to OpenAI.
For users, the experience is straightforward: ask ChatGPT about a product, view details surfaced by the AI, and, if the seller supports Instant Checkout, finalize the purchase in just one click.
