All About Updates in New Etsy Ads
You may be well versed with the Etsy Ads — the collaborative Ads — that distributed your Etsy Ad spending over Promoted Listings as well as Google Shopping for promotion. It was mainly concentrated on saving your time from advertising and pushing you to create more fantastic items.
80% of the Etsy sellers want to grow their businesses and digital ads are a cost-efficient and effective way to drive more visits and traffic to their listings.
Etsy has reformed the existing Etsy Ads tool. With the new update, your budget will not be distributed on two different channels; instead, all your budget will be consumed to promote listing within the Etsy site as promoted listings.
This update came as a relief for all those sellers, who were using Ads on Etsy and were experiencing:
- their budgets, eaten up by ads on Google shopping without getting any conversion from the same.
- The lack of control over the ads while paying for every click on Google.
The best part is: In the same amount of budget, you can promote your items on Etsy as well as on all other sites listed under Offsite Ads.
The very new update is focusing on:
- Driving even more traffic from multiple sources i.e., search engines and social media platforms.
- Providing a risk-free advertising option to pay only when you sell, unlike the CPC model of the earlier Etsy Ads.
- Offering transparency of rolling ads, to track through a dedicated dashboard showing performance of Offsite Ads.
What’s new with Etsy Offsite Ads
Etsy is introducing extended advertising services known as Etsy Offsite Ads. Whereby your listings will now get a chance to be promoted onto multiple search engines and social media sites, namely, Google, Bing, Facebook, Instagram, and Pinterest.
The robust technology and Etsy’s expertise will put up your creations on these high-traffic yielding sites so that you gain more shoppers.
The best part is: You will only be paying the advertising fee If the shopper happens to click on the ad and land into buying your item within 30 days.
If a shopper clicks on an ad for your item but doesn’t make a purchase, you don’t pay a fee.
Etsy Offsite Ads came as a mitigation for the high ad budget that you used to allot to Ads on Etsy, and at times of fewer sales, you ended up losing more than the profits.
Considering the continuous feedback received from millions of other sellers like you, Etsy emphasizes eliminating the risk by cutting down the fees for ads that won’t work for you.
The Fees and Timeline of Etsy Offsite Ads
Etsy Offsite Ads is an excellent opportunity to grow business and attract more shoppers, quoting this advantage — Etsy made the Offsite Ads mandatory to all the existing sellers. You need not participate manually for this service; upon its evolution, it will, by default, be displayed on your seller dashboard.
The Advertising Fee
All sellers are automatically enrolled in Offsite Ads. The ability to opt-out of Offsite Ads depends on your shop’s sales in the last 365 days:
You must consider: If you are an Etsy seller who made more than $10,000 in the past 365 days; you will be automatically enrolled in the Etsy Offsite Ads for a lifetime of your store. In return, you will enjoy the discounted fees of 12% to be levied on the sales you made through Offsite Ads.
On the other hand, if you are among the sellers who made less than the $10,000 in the last year, you have the option to opt-out from the Offsite Ads.
Meanwhile, if you make any sale from the Offsite Ads, you will be entitled to give 15% of the order as an advertising fee.
Conditions | Advertising Fee | Participation |
Sales exceeding USD 10,000 in 12 months | 12% | Mandatory |
Sales below USD 10,000 in 12 months | 15% | Optional |
Important Dates
The Etsy Offsite Ads will be implemented from the coming March 27th, 2020. All sellers registering after the date mentioned above will automatically become a part of Offsite Ads.
After April 10, 2020, some sellers will be able to choose whether to participate in the Offsite Ads or not.
It must be noted that: In case you make any sale out of Offsite Ads from March 27th, 2020, till May 1st, 2020, you will not be charged for the same. Following May 1st, you will be charged for every sale you make through Offsite Ads.
If you are wondering: What percentage of the fee, you are going to get, this detail will be available on your Shop Manager before May 1st, 2020.
An Illustration to support this –
Among the total sales that you will make, only 10% of them likely constitutes to have come from the Offsite Ads, considering this:
If a seller makes less than $10,000/year,
Take sales worth at $9000/year and 10% of these sales to come from offsite ads (i.e., ads on Google/Facebook/Instagram and others); then he needs to pay only 15% of $900 ( the 10% of total sales) This comes to $135.
On the other hand, if that seller makes $11,000/year and 10% of these comes from Offside Ads, then he needs to pay 12% of $1100 ( the 10% of total sales) This happens to only $132
So the 12% and 15% of the cap is for the Offsite Ads and sellers with more than $10,000 sales/year will enjoy the discounted rate as illustrated above.

What will be the Impact on Sellers?
Etsy readily supports and enables the home-made entrepreneurs, offering top-selling products to reach out to the broad audience and compete on a global scale.
This update is another approach to refine the marketing of products by leveraging powerful data and cutting-edge technology.
Following factors pay a strong motion as to how Offsite Ads will have a positive impact on your selling experience:
Empower Small Entrepreneurs
Traditional advertising on Etsy revolved around the Cost per Click model, where you were paying for every time your ad was seen and clicked. It used to cut down the consideration of buying.
With the Offsite Ads, you can save that extra lot of money and only pay when you are getting a sale from the ads. Every penny counts when you are a newly onboarding small entrepreneur.
Social Media Push
Putting forward your listings to the search engines and social media sites like; Facebook, Pinterest, and Instagram will help you leverage the vast and wide reach on those platforms and also a higher probability of getting your listings in most shopper’s basket.
More than 40% of digital consumer search brands and products on social sites that increase your chance of grabbing more attention and sales.
Time Limitation
In the meantime, there is also a time limitation of 30 days. If the shopper finds your ad on any of the sites and buys one or more of the item within 30 days only, then you are liable to pay for the ad else you are not.
A Dedicated Panel
In the event that you are wondering how you will be able to see if the ads are working for you or not. There will be a dedicated panel for the Offsite Ads; where you can get an actual picture of how many sales you are making and where the buyers come from.
No Hamper to Current Campaigns
All things considered, the current version of Etsy Ads is still in function; the only difference is that Google Shopping is no more a part of it. From your current ad campaign, all your budget will now be allotted just to the ads on Etsy.
