Amazon has announced a temporary extension of its return period for the upcoming holiday season, aiming to boost sales for merchants during this busy time. The longer return window allows customers more flexibility in returning purchased items, a move that Amazon believes will encourage early shopping and increase sales for sellers on the platform.
As the holiday season approaches, many online businesses begin their preparations, and Amazon is no exception. Recently recognized as the fourth largest online store in the Netherlands, the company has a history of extending its return deadlines during the holidays, offering customers more time to return items.
Extended Return Policy Across Europe
The extended return period will be in effect across Amazon’s European stores, including the United Kingdom, Germany, France, Italy, the Netherlands, Poland, Sweden, and Belgium. For items purchased between November 1st and December 25th, customers can return them until January 31st or within 30 days of the purchase date, whichever is later.
In Germany and Italy, the policy is slightly different for specific categories, such as cameras, electronics, office supplies, PCs, wireless devices, video games, music, and DVDs. Buyers can return the purchases from these categories made during the holiday period until January 15th or within 14 days of the purchase date, whichever comes later.
Different Return Window for Spanish Customers
In Spain, the return policy varies further. Customers who buy items between November 1st and January 6th can return them until February 6th or within 30 days of the purchase date, whichever is later. These changes were communicated through Amazon’s Seller Central forum.
Boosting Confidence for Early Holiday Shopping
Amazon believes that extending the return window will give customers the confidence to shop early, knowing they have more time to return unwanted items. This policy applies to all orders fulfilled through Amazon, whether by Fulfilled by Amazon (FBA), Amazon Retail, or Fulfilled by Seller. By offering a more generous return period, Amazon aims to create a more shopper-friendly experience and help merchants take advantage of the holiday shopping surge.
