What is Google Shopping?

Google Shopping is one of a kind marketplace, where you can list your products at the same time post Shopping Ads for your products.

Buy On Google is the new Google Shopping.

The revamped Google Merchant Center allows you to manage your Google Shopping and everything product feed-related.

Before that, you might be aware of the new updates in Google Shopping. We want to talk about it briefly here.

Google Shopping Actions US is open for Merchants in India and Canada: Start selling cross-border to customers in the US, from either India or Canada without any fuss, right away.

Short history:

Google, in December 2002, launched Froogle. It served as a Google product search engine. Later it was changed to Google Shopping in 2012. Earlier, Google Shopping was also referred to as Google Shopping Ads, and the popularly known Google Express was a marketplace.

After the update, Google Express became an inevitable part of Google Shopping. Well, with this update, Google Merchant Center also got a makeover.

While we’re at it, let us give you a short description of

What is Google Shopping Ads?

Google Shopping Ads are also called Product Listing Ads (PLAs), which appear on SERPs (search engine result pages) and are based on PPC (pay per click).

“What’s so “new” about Google Merchant Center?”

Merchant Center was much in need of an update since getting started on Google Shopping was a tedious job.

The new update includes:

  • Shopping Ads:

As we have mentioned above, these are your PLAs that appear on SERPs.

  • Surfaces Across Google:

It is a free program that allows you to show your product data across all Google platforms, from your store, including rich product results on Google Image and Google Search.

You can boost your product’s visibility. It allows products to be displayed on various Google platforms (especially in the form of rich product results on Google Images and on Google search).

“I own a brick-mortar shop, I don’t have an online store, Google Merchant Center has nothing for me.”

  • Local Inventory Ads:

Well, well, would you like that!

Google has a program for you too! With this, you can increase foot traffic to your store.

You can showcase your local inventory. Your products and store information will be visible to nearby shoppers.

When a potential buyer clicks on the link, they will arrive at the Google-hosted page for your store, known as a Local Storefront.

  • Dynamic Remarketing:

It is a brilliant way of reapproaching your customers through the program offered by the Google Merchant Center, and it is based on the section of the site the particular customer visited.

You will have to provide information to Google before you start this, information like your product feed through Merchant Center.

You would have to link your Merchant Center and Google AdWords account and create a dynamic remarketing campaign.

  • Customer Reviews:

It’s a free service; it enables sellers to collect valuable feedback. Customer reviews increase conversion rates by 3x. You can use Google Customer Reviews.

  • Merchant Promotion:

It is a free feature, lets you distribute online advertisements with Shopping Ads on Google.com. However, CPC rates still apply.

  • Product Rating:

You have to upload a feed of reviews. According to the minimum requirements of Google for product rating, you should have a minimum of 50 reviews in your product feed.

You can also submit it through Google Customer Reviews, and it’ll be sent to the Merchant Center. You should update their product ratings every month.

Onboarding and integration options are available if you wish to integrate Google Customer Reviews.

That’s not all, Google just announced some changes in the Merchant Center, let’s have a look

  • Automated Feeds:

Automated feed will be available starting this November 2019.

You can either opt for the Merchant Center your website for schema structured product data and make an initial feed.

You can add a supplemental feed if you wish to add more details to it.

  • Automatic Image Improvements:

If your product images include promotional texts or things that aren’t very necessary, then through this, the image will be automatically improved.

  • Multi-Country Feed:

Previously, in 2017, it was only available in 37 countries but now it is available for a total of 95 countries. You don’t have to reupload your feed every time you want your product ads to be shown in the same language-speaking country.

For example, German product information can show automatically in other German-speaking countries like Austria and Switzerland when you set up your shipping and location targeting for those countries in your Shopping Campaigns.

Now that you have a clear idea about Google Shopping and Google Shopping Ads, let’s look at how Google Shopping works, how can you onboard on Google Shopping and it’s eligibility one-by-one.
